The Art Of Sharing – ILM Conference 2018
How does a typical Sunday start for most of us? A few hours long procrastination session in bed leading to a late lunch maybe. You need that to get back to routine after a long Saturday night, I suppose.
Well, we had a similar sort of Sunday last month but a bunch of talented entrepreneurs from Lahore University Of Management Sciences had something else planned and that was way more productive from our usual Sunday activities.
Riayat is a proximity-based social enterprise co-founded by Sarim and Usman who wish to facilitate the areas adjacent to LUMS in terms of academia, health and skill development.
Riayat had organized an ILM Conference(Education Conference) for the people of Gohawa Village, located right beside Defense Housing Authority, Lahore.
As soon as you cross into this village from DHA, the world changes. Those posh villas turn into squashed settlements, multiple families restricted to a single room and one can see a stream of government schools downtrodden by their respective caretakers.
This conference was in collaboration with Athena College Solutions, a college counseling solution co-founded by Saad, Maaz, and Adil from LUMS and GenTeach which is an education based startup founded by Rafia and guess what, she hails from LUMS as well.
“Entrepreneurship Game Strong”
The objective was the development of Gohawa community while the agenda was to increase awareness about their basic rights along with the importance of education.

We do see a lot of NGOs operating on the same lines but Riayat through this particular initiative aims to make the residents of Gohawa self-sufficient and self-sustainable by providing an educated and learned environment.
The conference kicked off with Sarim addressing the attendees and the best part was each speaker tried to utilize their time interacting with the local community including union leaders, parents, social activists and the most important of the audience were the children themselves.
Sarim was followed by Saad and Adil, representing Athena College Solutions who had some great activities planned for the audience including storytelling, interactive sessions and much more. We had Adil addressing the parents about how important education is and even if ones not privileged enough to afford a child’s education, one can not certainly give up as “ILM” is something that isn’t restricted to books or course curriculum, it can be attained beyond conventional means.
Saad told the audience how Athena plans to incorporate awareness sessions, educational initiatives and much more in their portfolio in the near future.
A mix of cultural and historical references along with Islamic teachings, highlighting the importance of education was the purpose to serve.
Rafia, representing Genteach was able to capture the audience through her charismatic speech and inspiring stories about how education leads to a successful future and it sure does.
The Chief Guest present for the closing address was Mr. Ghalib Khalil and Ms. Roshane, co-founders of an organization named Azaad Pakistan, previously known as Pakistan Rescue Youth Foundation. These inspiring individuals work in multiple welfare streams where one of their existing projects include collecting aid for Syrian refugees.
Ghalib has received a number of awards and recognitions, the most notable being included by Youth Service America in their list of the 25 Most Powerful and Influential Young People in the World.
Entrepreneurs like Riayat and team are across Pakistan and they do have a long-term and sustainable vision for the people of Pakistan. What these guys need is our unconditional support and trust and that’s all they are asking for.
Riayat has some extraordinary plans for summers and we would encourage our readers to go through them at least once.
Here is How can we help Riayat and Team:
“ROTI KAPRA MUKAN” requires a contribution of Rs. 1600/ Family.
We wish ventures like Riayat, Athena and Genteach the very best of luck in their future endeavors.
Best Regards-Shehryar Imran Ejaz
